Evolution of a Byline
A bit of background information. I was born with the name Phyllis Dawn Bundman. Named for my paternal grandfather as was tradition at the time, my first name really never quite suited the real me. Although I was teased mercilessly throughout my school years for it, I utilized that first name for three decades.

On my 30th birthday, I woke up with a new mindset. I took a deep breath and exhaled my first name. I called my father to ask his blessing for changing my legal name from Phyllis to Dawn. He didn’t hesitate. He told me, “If that’s what you want, honey.” I was reborn! It caused quite a stir among my family and friends, but it was well worth it!

Sometimes when I hear that old name, a wave of nostalgia flows over me. Some of my favorite copywriting assignments were penned under that byline. These days, I go by Dawn. It suits me much better and feels great. Feeling like my authentic self allows me to do my best work. I’d love to collaborate with you!
